The Monitor 4EC is identical to the Monitor 4, except that it has an energy compensated Geiger-Mueller tube that offers a more accurate linear reading for Gamma and X-rays (above 40 keV).

This makes the EC model especially suited for checking X-Ray machines for leaks.

At the same time, this EC model still detects Alpha and Beta radiation, and produces the same typical background radiation count as the standard Monitor 4.

Like the Monitor 4, for the same price, the Monitor 4EC is available in a dual-scale meter that reads out either in mR/hr and CPM, or in mR/hr and µSv/hr.  So please specify which meter configuration you wish to order.

This item typically ships within 1 business day.

Below, you will find the Specifications for the Monitor 4EC, only as they differ from the standard Monitor 4.  Otherwise, you can assume that the specifications are the same. m4ec-response-curve.gif

Specifications (only as they differ from Monitor 4):

Detector

Halogen-quenched GM tube, energy compensated sidewall 2mm tin filter

Energy Sensitivity The energy response for gamma and x-rays through the detector sidewall is flat within +61% or -26% over the range of 40 keV to 100 keV, and within +35% or -17% over the range of 100 keV to 1.3 MeV

Weight

235 grams (8.3 oz.) without battery, vs 215g (7.6 oz) on Monitor 4

It just works, exactly as described

The M4-ec is a nicely-built instrument with a feel of quality. Its HV power supply doesn't whine like some do. When I first switched it on it surprised me with a racket of activity -- until remembering that just that day I went for a nuclear stress test and I really was radioactive to the tune of 30 uSv/h. The analog display and the beeps / clicks really does give it that feeling of Geiger counters in the movies.
