The 'Radiation Alert' Ranger Pocket Geiger Counter is now smaller, more ergonomic, and with better features, all for the same price! The Ranger features a new interface with touchpad technology. Included with each instrument for no extra charge is a protective boot, carrying case and stand that holds the instrument upright for hands-free operation!
The Ranger offers maximum performance in a lightweight, rugged solution for surveying at the facility or in the field. The Ranger has been designed for industrial environments, but it still has all of the features you’ve come to love in the lab.
- Small, handheld, microprocessor-based instrument
- Excellent sensitivity to low levels of Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and X-rays
- Backlit digital display
- Red count light
- Audible Beeper that sounds with each count detected, providing instant indications of the radiation level.
- Selectable alert levels
- Adjustable timer for performing Timed Counts
- Built in efficiencies for common isotopes to calculate activity in Bq and DPM. (Important: The Ranger does not identify isotopes - to use this feature, you must know the isotope in advance).
- Internal memory, data logging, and USB connectivity
- Free Observer USB Software to download your data, set computer alarms, and calibrate your instrument!
- Bluetooth for use with the Free Observer BLE App for Android.
- Optional wipe test plate for swipes.
- Calibrated at the factory, electronically - Certificate of Conformance included - see photo above
- NIST level calibration available at extra charge - click here
Internal Halogen-quenched, uncompensated GM tube with thin mica window, 1.4-2.0 mg/cm2 areal density. Effective diameter of window is 45 mm (1.77 in.).
mR/hr - .001 (1µR) to 100
µSv/hr - .01 to 1000
CPM - 0 to 350,000
CPS - 0 to 5000
Total Counts- 1 to 9,999,000 counts
(Referenced to Cs137) Typically ±15% from factory, ±10% with NIST Source Calibration
Detects Alpha down to 2 MeV. Detects Beta down to .16 MeV; typical detection efficiency at 1 MeV is approx. 25%. Detects Gamma down to 10 KeV through the detector window. 3340 CPM/mR/hr (137Cs). Smallest detectable level for 125I is .02 µCi at contact.
Sulfur (35S), Strontium (90Sr/y), Cesium (137Cs), Phosphorus (32P), Carbon (14C), Iodine (131I), Cobalt (60Co), and Alpha
Selectable Alert Set Range
mR/hr .001 - 50 and CPM 1 - 160,000. Pulsating beeper sounds the alert. Adjustable alert levels are used for mR/hr / CPM, and µSv/hr / CPS. 70db @ 1m. Alarm will sound when in Timer Mode when set alarm threshold is reached.
Meter will hold at OVER RANGE in fields as high as 100 times the maximum reading.
Display updates every 3 seconds. At low background levels, the update is the average for the past 30-second time period. The timed period for the average decreases as the radiation level increases.
Graphic Display with Backlight
Red LED flashes with each radiation event
Internally mounted beeper (can be switched off for silent operation)
Data Logging Capacity
5,452 data points, which at 1 minute intervals as an example, equates to 3.7 days
USB for use with Free Observer USB Software for PCs
Two AA alkaline batteries (included)
140 X 68 X 33 mm (5.5 X 2.7 X 1.3 in.)
Carrying Case, Xtreme Boot, Stand, Mini-USB Cable, Observer USB Software Download , Certificate of Conformance
Wipe Test Plate, Swipes, NIST Calibration
1 year limited warranty

despite an indefinite time and very high prices following the shortage of meters in europe due to the Ukrainian crisis, mineralab has found the right compromise with the radiation alert ranger, great equipment, great service and great shop!!!!
We use these meters for a broad range of radiation safety work, including XRD and cabinet xray leakage testing, Cs137 gauge dose rate surveys, and contamination (C14 betas and higher).
This unit is far better built that I had imagined. It also came with a bunch of accessories (batteries included too!) in the box which was a nice surprise in this day of manufacturers cutting costs by eliminating accessories. It was very pleasant to deal with the owner, Tim Flanigan. He answered my emails promptly...even late into the evening. My order was shipped within two hours of my order and showed up at my door two days later. Now that's service!
Referring to the review below, we were notified by the customer of the Ranger arriving broken, out-of-the-box, and after checking for any apparent damage during shipment, we immediately shipped a replacement Ranger, which the customer confirms having received in working order. It is our routine to check out Geiger counters before shipment, even though new, and that particular Ranger had checked out fine. This is one of only 3 instances I can think of, over 20 years and shipment of 000's of pancake-tubed Geiger counters, where the tube broke during shipment.
I can't be sure that this product is working correctly because it arrived broken. the round sensor on the back has what looks to be a paper thin plastic layer below the metal mesh. That plastic layer is shattered and pieces of it are falling out of the machine. If it works, or can be fixed, I like the overall design. Hoping to get a replacement.
Heck, Geigercounters.com compete with Amazon! I ordered the Ranger on Tuesday night,n3 minutes later I got the FedEx tracking, and it arrived from the US to Italy on Friday! You folks compete with Amazon? The device is solid and well built. I had to decide between Mazur PRM-9000, Medcom Inspector, and SE Ranger and thanks to this website which included a great comparison table I decided to go for the Ranger I wish the device had a Wi-Fi connection and the ability to log online, but none of the above mentioned counters does have Wi-Fi. Getting data from the device is easy but the data format isn't CVS standard and you have to work on it before you use your data for analysis in GeigerLog software which is an excellent software and is free
Well made, easy to use, accurate, and comes with features not found on other units in this price range. For one, menu choices allow extra analysis of known isotopes. The included "Xtreme Boot" is another bonus included. SE International's Ranger is my first choice in radiation detectors. In its price range, I have found no others that compare. Highly recommended, for sure!
Having owned many of the Civil Defense era geiger counters I was impressed when I received my Ranger. It is very easy to use in a nice compact package. My uses will be mostly background monitoring but I wanted the capability for decontamination checks if it is ever needed. The software hook up to a computer looks like it will be very useful for charting trends.
